Safeguard Engineering was established to meet a growing demand for a safety and environmental engineering specialist, that is completely impartial, cost effective and operates with the highest levels of integrity and trust.
Safeguard Engineering are proud to have supported University of West London in developing course content for a brand new masters’ degree in ‘Urban Air Mobility’. Together with Coptrz, the partnership brings together academia and leading industry knowledge, to develop a unique and exciting university course for the future leaders of the Advance Air Mobility (AAM) sector.
The course has been developed as part of the UK Research and Innovation ‘Future Flight Challenge’ – a £300 million programme, co-funded by the government and industry, set to address the skills gaps in the UK’s rapidly growing future flight industry.
The operation of drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is already prevalent, and only set to grow further with companies such as DHL, Amazon and FedEx planning on greater use for deliveries in the future. By 2030 – 2035, around 70,000 drones are expected to be flying in the UK – transporting not only goods, but likely people too.
The brand new course curriculum unlocks technical and social barriers to accelerate growth in this important transport sector and will deliver a whole-systems perspective of AAM, including vehicle design and technology, ground and airspace infrastructure, policy & regulation and commercialisation. The course will blend theoretical and practical knowledge and delivered in a hybrid format to appeal to both recent graduates and industry professionals.
Safeguard Engineering Project Lead Alex Barker said “This is a great opportunity for us to provide our expertise in Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and engineering services to help address the skills gap in the UK’s aviation and aerospace sector. This exciting partnership enables Safeguard Engineering to provide our practical experience in designing vertiports – the drone airports that will be required in the future – to the development of this unique and exciting Masters university course. We are incredibly proud to partner with industry and academic leaders from the University of West London and Coptrz.”
