Safeguard Engineering was established to meet a growing demand for a safety and environmental engineering specialist, that is completely impartial, cost effective and operates with the highest levels of integrity and trust.
The SEL business continues to expand and we are delighted to welcome two new members of staff.
Chai is a highly qualified and experienced Ammunition Technician Specialist with explosives experience gained through 23 years in the Army. He has an in depth knowledge of all Land Service Ammunition and most recently has worked as an Ammunition Safety Officer for the United Nations in South Sudan. Here his role was to improve the safety aspect for all contingent troops that held ammunition in support of the mission. He assisted them in improvements to all ammunition sites and was the subject matter expert (SME) on all ammunition related issues.
Chai will be based in our Portsmouth office and will be working alongside Ordnance, Munitions and Explosives (OME) expert Steve Beech focusing on our work in High Hazard Facility Safety. He will also support other team members on Maritime Explosives Safety and Remote Operated Vehicles (Subsea Robotics) operations.
As a military reservist Chai enjoys spending time at the TA centre in Cosham working alongside old friends. But primarily Chai is a family man who enjoys being with his family, long dog walks and when time allows picking up a good book!
Matt is an analytical engineering Contracts Manager with over 16 years’ hands on experience in electrical, electronic and mechanical maintenance/installation. He was a Weapons Engineer in the Royal Navy for 12 years serving on type 23 frigates and PCRF RFA Argus. Carried out planned and preventative maintenance on weapon systems, flight deck lighting and aircraft approach lighting. Ensuring ordnance, munitions and explosives were stored safely and correctly ready for front line use. Matt has hands on experience of many of the ships that Safeguard Engineering supports.
Most recently he has worked for Relay Engineering for 4 ½ years as a Contracts Manager based in A&P Falmouth as their prime electrical contractor. Carrying out works on all 3 Bay Class RFA’s, RFA ARGUS, River Class OPV 1&2, HMS Scott and various commercial vessels. Matt will continue to be based in Falmouth where he can give support to projects that we have with A&P Falmouth and throughout the business.
In his spare time away from work and a busy family life he plays at and represents Falmouth Golf Club’s team and currently holds the title of Club Champion. In true Cornish fashion every other spare minute is spent down the beach, or on the water paddle boarding with his children and partner.
Commenting on the new team members Steve Beech, Director said:
“The success of our business is built on the quality of the people we employ. Both Chai and Matt are high achievers and have demonstrated their ability to understand, manage and support complex explosives safety and electrical engineering systems. I am confident that they will work well within our existing SEL team and will give excellent support to client projects across a range of sectors.”
